FIRM PROFILE
Kolkowitz and Kusske multidisciplinary design firm with broad professional expertise in the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design and Design Direction & Methodology. Our expertise and experience enables us to integrate and collaborate on all phases of projects from planning through conceptual design to construction documents and site inspection.
We strongly believe that design projects require a disciplined approach to design methodology. Through this process of design collaboration, the individual nature and identity of the project evolves. At each phase of this process the unique character of the site, the architecture, the landscape and the environment are carefully nurtured to express an implicit design quality and sense of place.
Underlying our approach to design methodology is a strong orientation to environmental sustainability. This philosophical attitude reveals itself at all levels of planning, architecture, site development and landscape plantings. From the beginning of the collaborative process, awareness of sustainable directives for solar orientation, green roofs, recycling of water and appropriateness of all materials and systems underlies the methodology. The result of this intensive approach further reinforces the individual character of the site, the architecture as well as the long term sustainability and economics of the project. As the recipient of an 'Energy Star' grant from the State of Connecticut, K and K has pursued the utilization of alternate energy systems; focusing on the use of geothermal heating/cooling alternatives in construction.
